For Of Gods and Faith, I have been brought on as a composer. The developer, Ben (BoopityBap), also known as langotriel, tasked me with creating 2 types of music for this game. All of the music had to be made with traditional Nordic instruments and had to match the preexisting music already in the game.
First are the “selection tracks” that play when you pick a patron god. As of now, I have 2 tracks for the gods that will be playable on the demo: Fertility and Rage. For both selection tracks, Ben shared a variety of references with specific things I needed to glean from each. For the fertility track there was a cue from the movie Ants which showed the epic-ness of the build, a video of a woman singing a beautiful traditional song to her cattle, and a reference from “The Prince of Egypt” that gave me an example of how the harmonies and instruments should work together at the impact. For Rage, I was given similar notes. Both tracks took three or four iterations to get timings and mood just right.
The second type of tracks are the atmospheric tracks. For the Fertility atmospheric track I have completed, “Aura of Vitality”, I was given for reference a few different bands playing traditional Norse music. These tracks also needed to match the existing music, which, is based mostly in textures and gestures rather than full blown pieces of music.
All of this music is considered a work in progress and we have been in contract with a Hardanger fiddle player as well as a vocalist to give the sound an extra boost into magical!

Of Gods & Faith is a Norse-inspired genre-bending player vs AI RTS game with Heroes 3 style city building, first person mini-games and macro strategy field battles.
